The benefits and the disadvantages of television
Nowadays, there is hardly any
house without television, because it is one of the most used and most
influential means of communication on various aspects of life, because it
attracts the young before the old, so that everyone finds their place on
television as children, adolescents and young people. Where the TV combines
image and sound at the same time, and can thus control the sense of hearing and
sight. However, although the TV has many advantages, it also has a set of
disadvantsges that need to be looked out for.
The benefits of television:
The
advantages of television when used correctly are many:
a. It is an entertainment tool for all family members: children spend most
of their time watching various cartoon programs, and the elderly also depend on
them to watch the latest news, cultural and documentary programs , and young
people are interested in watching films, series for young people, educational
and cultural programs.
b. For children: television is an educational source of learning for children if it is used well, because it provides targeted educational programs and other entertainment that help the child to learn and build his personality as well as to develop their general culture.
c. Raise awareness of the individual through different cultural programs offered in several languages.
d. It allows knowing the latest news and developments in the world, because
they are aware of the latest developments.
e. He helps people to read and open up to other cultures with ease and to
develop his information.
The disadvantages of television:
Television has many drawbacks, including:
a. Parents are busier than their children, watch television for several
hours a day and thus neglect to communicate with their children physically and
emotionally.
b. It sometimes displays unethical things, especially with parents who are
not aware of the quality of the programs their children watch, because
satellite channels are becoming more numerous, the content also becomes poor
and trivial and sometimes leads to the deviation.
c. This causes great lethargy in the body, because studies have shown that
television brings the mind into a state of rest which is like sleeping.
d. Brings the children to feel alone and to feel the emotional emptiness of
the family, which generates family aversion and their preference for isolation.
e. Television sometimes sows terror in the hearts of viewers, especially
among children, when they watch news programs and the scenes of violence,
destruction and wars it displays.
f. Risk of obesity, since daily use of the television and the fact of
sitting for a long time in front of it can lead to addiction to lack of
activity, which can threaten one's health and increase the risk of obesity,
especially children.
g. Causes an attempt to imitate some of the dangerous scenes only in the
programs presented, especially children, and this can cause many problems, such
as imitation of horror films, scenes of violence that occur in the free
wrestling, police movies and circus shows.
We can agree through the above
that the problem is not the television itself, but the real problem is how we
support it properly as a modern self-contained means found in every household
in every family.
